Hide

West LA

Hide is a staple.  In many ways, the iconic Sushi Restaurant of West LA, representing everything that is good about experiencing Japanese cuisine at its purest.  One of the oldest restaurants still standing in original form in the Little Osaka portion of Sawtelle, Hide possesses every characteristic that makes the Sushi experience so cathartic.

To start, Hide is a “no thrills” establishment.  The décor is consistent with a 70’s style Japanese design making you feel like you are actually in Osaka.  The never changing lineup of chefs greet all customers, and know all of the regulars, making this an extremely welcoming environment to explore the world of raw fish.

What makes Hide great is the outright unwavering consistency of its sushi preparation since 1979. One cannot go wrong with ordering the usual Salmon, Albacore, Yellowtail and a fresh crab California roll, but don’t shy away from the MonkFish Liver and the Scallop Dynamite appetizer which are personal standouts.  The kitchen menu also offers a variety of great traditional options like Teriyaki and Tempura.

At the end of the day, beyond pumping out slabs of fresh fish, Hide has been and remains a true premium in value. A meal will run you in the $25-40 range depending on the size of your appetite.

Be prepared to have cash on hand as credit cards are not accepted!

Overall: The best of the best when it comes to casual Sushi fare in West LA.  Never disappoints, always delivers. (Quality: Very Good – Variety: Very Good – Value: Highest – Vibe: Very Good)
