Chiba

North Hollywood

When looking up “Strip Mall Sushi” in the urban dictionary, Chiba is what should appear.  Up until recently, Chiba attracted sushi goers from across the city to the old dilapidated  strip center it found itself in since the 70’s.  Last year, they finally decided to call it quits and open up their own shop down the block on Lankershim Blvd.  and now serve their patrons in a superficially more fitting setting.

With deep roots in traditional Japanese style cuisine, Chiba was one of the first LA sushi bars to adapt to its customer’s Southern Californian pallets. Chiba is unique in that it churns out some of the freshest nigiri around town while also delivering on debatably the most delicious rolls one can find.  Chiba has been successful in enticing traditional nigiri seeking customers to taste crunchy hand and exotic cut rolls for years and will do so for years to come.

For some this may be a road trip destination, but don’t be alarmed, if it takes you decades to finally arrive, you can certainly bet that Chiba will still be sitting there. It is no coincidence that this is one of the longest standing and consistent restaurants sushi or non-sushi alike.

Overall: Chiba is one of those legendary must try spots if you ever happen to find yourself in the North Valley.  (Quality: Very Good – Variety: Very Good – Value: Very Good – Vibe: Very Good)
