Miya
Valley Village
Miya may be the most underrated sushi restaurant in Los Angeles. That is a term that is often thrown around when not due and may be for this case. Hell, I don’t think anyone that goes to Miya doesn’t rave about how good it is. I use this term simply to reiterate a stance I personally take when eating at sushi restaurants. It does not matter to me if I am basking in the glory of a three-hour omakase or on the go grabbing a Rainbow Roll from the counter at the Japanese market; there is a time and place for “everything”. That time and place is “always” at Miya.
There is nothing fancy here, it’s a sushi bar off Laurel Canyon in Studio City with the quintessential light wall interior and wood bar. There is nothing that sticks out on the menu or the fresh fish board. Everything that is here you have most certainly had before… But when you have it here, it is as good as you want it to be. I’ll never forget in my earlier years of sitting at the bar and inquiring about what to eat, I asked the chef at Miya “what’s fresh today”. I was given a stern look and a curt response of “everything”… I’ve never asked another question since.
Overall: Miya is the quintessential neighborhood sushi restaurant that breeds unwavering loyalty. (Quality: Very High – Variety: Average – Value: Highest – Vibe: Average)
