Uzumaki

Culver City

With the competition of Los Angeles Japanese cuisine in many ways higher than anywhere outside of the island nation Japan, being the new kid on the block is not an easy task.  Uzumaki has landed with both feet on the ground prepared to stay for the long-haul.

Claiming to be a part of the “New Wave of Sushi”, Uzumaki aims to deliver high quality sushi at an affordable price.  Tucked away at the bottom of a new apartment development, this restaurant feels like a hybrid between a Sugar Fish and a Katsu-Ya.  Sit at the tables and indulge in one of the multi course sushi sets (ranging from $20-35) or sit at the bar and splurge on the chef’s seasonal selections.

While the new wave may satisfy the stomach and pocket, be prepared to pay with your time at peak hours as reservations are not accepted.  Sorry if I forgot to mention, but this place has been an absolute local hit.

Overall: Usually build-to-suit restaurants in a brand new developments feel a bit corporate, but you can tell by the taste of the food here, Uzumaki delivers.      (Quality: Good – Variety: Good – Value: Very Good – Vibe: Good)
