Okamura

Encino

Los Angeles Valley Sushi rightfully has claimed the hearts of foodies across the city for decades.  Since opening his doors in 2012, Chef Ryota Okamura has taken the “over the hill” sushi scene by storm.  With roots ranging from the Hattori Culinary Academy to working at Sushi Zo, Chef Okamura delivers a level of expertise and quality received at the top Omakases across town.

A humble yet inviting setting, once you enter the doors of this Encino establishment, you are opening yourself to a neighborhood sushi bar that simply put is exceptional in scale.  While the Omakase (hovering around $75-100) is presented in an exceptional manner, consisting of sashimi courses with gold flakes and seasonal and well portioned selections of sushi, don’t fear taking out a second mortgage on your house, as the price is also damn reasonable.  Okamura has successfully evolved itself into a hybrid sushi atmosphere delivering house special rolls that will likely make a returning customer order a-la-carte.

What makes Okamura great is the fact that this restaurant brings local families and sushi aficionados to the same counter of culinary excellence.  It is no surprise that Okamura has built an almost cult-like following in only a few years of being open for business.

Overall: Of the plethora of great neighborhood sushi restaurants in the Valley, Okamura is a little different, in a great way that seems to continue bringing back loyal patrons.  (Quality: Very Good – Variety: Very Good – Value: Very Good – Vibe: Good)
