It didn’t take "Gen" long to become the namesake that it is today… Regardless, there is something to be said about any restaurant that has been around for over four decades.

Located in Little Tokyo, Gen is what I imagine as a pioneer of American Japanese cuisine, combining complete commitment to tradition and quality, while creating an inviting atmosphere to dine.  With a vast selection of seasonal fish, Gen is magnificent on every level.  Whether you decided to wait an hour in line for the famous and extremely affordable lunch special or walk up to the sushi bar, the execution of each meal always approaches perfection (typically there is no wait at the bar during lunch hours but you cant order the $15 dollar sashimi special).  The likes of high-level executives serenading clients and broke college students spending their allowance populate the dining room, making for an all-encompassing atmosphere.    

Many would say Gen holds the crown for the regions claim to sushi hierarchy.  Being a restaurant that offers a superb omakase next to a world class sashimi bargain, I must say “long live the Gen”!

Overall: If in LA for one day to get Sushi, Gen is likely where I would go.  (Quality: Highest – Variety: Highest – Value: Highest – Vibe: Highest)
