Zo

Cheviot Hills

Zo has held the status of legend on the streets of LA since first opening in 2006.  How does this Michelin rated edo-style sushi bar continue to maintain notoriety while staying essentially anonymously tucked away in Cheviot Hills? Simply because it is sushi perfection.

Open the doors and embrace the dark ambiance as you prepare for a holy crucible of raw fish consumption.  A meal at Zo is not for the faint of heart, however.  The dinner Omakase is north of two dozen courses consisting of hours of feasting.  Curated in the highest manner of expertise, the meal typically begins with several courses of sashimi then elevates you to a realm of nigiri consumption that is rivaled locally by none.

Be prepared to indulge in the likes of squid noodles, baby abalone, live scallop, butterfish, imports from Japan and several presentations of uni. The hand roll at the end is a nice touch allowing one to choose their final destiny when completing this Odyssey.

Nothing at Zo is over the top.  Everything stays true to the deep complexity that can be achieved with each fish being sampled. I take Zo as a learning experience of how sushi consumption has evolved in modern times.  We are able to enjoy the world’s most highly praised delicacies at one table during one meal… a true feat.

Overall: This embodies once in a lifetime sushi.  (Quality: Highest – Variety: Highest – Value: Don’t Ask – Vibe: Good)
